vague on purpose

Well, I'm here. Coach's girlfriend needs to die and I wish Luciano would come back from Italy. Trying to behave myself and it isn't easy. I don't have enough time to say more than than my willpower, if any ever existed, is mostly gone, and tempation continues to rear it's cute young head. In other news, I got a cat, she is a long haired calico and I named her Gypsy, and she is beautiful and sweet and I am tickled pink about that. I hear that a vampire is running for governer of some northern state, I forgot which one. I kind of hope he wins just to make a point, but he probably won't since he mentioned that he would "personally impale child molesters with a wooden pole" or something to that effect and I think that might bother some of the voting public, lol. I guess I'm going to a club with my husband tonight although my heart's not in it and it's freaking cold and windy out there. I can think of other things I'd rather do indoors when it's cold and windy but we do not seem to be on the same page there. Wish I could give Jes a hug, her last post sounded so sad. *HUGS, Jes* Well, I guess I'll paint on a smile and go dance or something. Chau.

Jes inspired me to take a quiz. Here ya go, this is me in a nutshell:

You scored as Existentialist. Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Mankind is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.

Existentialist

100%

Materialist

100%

Modernist

81%

Postmodernist

81%

Cultural Creative

63%

Romanticist

50%

Idealist

19%

Fundamentalist

13%

</td>

What is Your World View?
Yea 4 Connecticut!!

HARTFORD, Connecticut (AP) -- The state Senate easily approved a bill that would make Connecticut the first state to recognize civil unions between same-sex couples without being pressured by the courts.

Senators debated for nearly four hours Wednesday before voting 27-9 for the landmark bill, which would give gay and lesbian couples many of the same rights as married couples. Vermont has approved civil unions and Massachusetts has gay marriage, but the changes came only after lawsuits were brought by same-sex couples.

"We stand today before a portal to history," said Democratic Sen. Andrew McDonald, one of a handful of openly gay lawmakers. "I ask you to pass through it."

Proponents say the legislation will likely clear the state House, possibly as early as next week. Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell has not taken a stand on the bill but has said she supports the concept of civil unions.

A poll released Thursday found that Connecticut voters back civil unions but not gay marriage.

Civil unions were supported by 56 percent of registered voters, while 53 percent opposed marriage for same-sex couples, according to the Quinnipiac University survey. The telephone poll of 1,541 registered voters was taken from March 28 to April 4 and had an error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Brian Brown, executive director of the Family Institute of Connecticut, had maintained that most voters do not support civil unions or same-sex marriage, and he called the vote "a slap in the face of democracy." But Anne Stanback, president of Love Makes a Family and an advocate for same-sex marriage, said she was "very proud to live in Connecticut today."

Gay rights proponents originally hoped to pass a bill similar to the Massachusetts law that allows same-sex couples to marry. But legislative leaders decided there was more political support for Vermont-style civil unions, which extend state-mandated rights and privileges of marriage, but without the marriage license.

Six of the Senate's 12 Republicans and 21 of the 24 Democrats voted for the bill. Six Republicans and three Democrats voted against it.

An effort failed to amend the bill to define marriage as being between one man and one woman. Rell said she would prefer the marriage definition was in the legislation, but would not say she would veto the bill if it weren't.

The vote came a day after Kansas became the 18th state to pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Thirteen other states passed such prohibitions last year.

The 2000 Census found 7,400 same-sex couples in Connecticut.

About 70 people watched the debate from the Senate galleries. The crowd ranged from same-sex couples to monks who opposed the legislation.

State Sen. John Kissel, ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, who voted against the legislation, said experience shows that civil unions will just be a temporary answer and advocates will continue to press for gay marriage.

"It's hard to believe that the train, as it rolls down the tracks, is going to stop at this station," said Kissel. "Going down this road has a price to it."

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH KANSAS????????

TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) -- Kansans overwhelmingly voted to add a ban on gay marriage and civil unions to their state constitution, but both sides predicted court battles over the amendment.

The ban reaffirms the state's long-standing policy of recognizing only marriages between one man and one woman. It also declares that only such unions are entitled to the "rights and incidents" of marriage, prohibiting the state from authorizing civil unions for gay couples.

With final, unofficial results from 104 of the state's 105 counties on Tuesday, 414,235, or 70 percent, voted "yes," and 178,167, or 29 percent voted "no."

Critics argued the amendment could have unexpected consequences, such as potentially preventing companies from offering health benefits to employees' partners -- gay or heterosexual.

The leader of a national group favoring the ban predicted Wednesday it ultimately will fail in federal court.

"All these state amendments are going to be struck down by federal judges," said Matt Daniels, president of the Alliance for Marriage. "We're in a race now -- in a race between the democratic process in Kansas and other states and the federal courts."

Daniels' group has proposed an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman but leave to the states other issues, such as permitting civil unions. He said such a federal amendment is necessary to head off legal challenges to state amendments.

Matt Foreman, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, agreed that the U.S. Supreme Court ultimately will determine the validity of state constitutional bans on same-sex marriage.

Foreman predicted the amendment will spawn lawsuits as gays, lesbians and unmarried heterosexuals encounter problems.

"Does this impact living wills?" he asked. "Powers of attorney? Custody agreements? The enforcement of custody agreements?"

The Rev. Terry Fox, senior pastor of Wichita's Immanuel Baptist Church and a leader of the effort for the amendment, also predicted a legal attack by opponents but was confident the amendment would withstand scrutiny.

Voters in 13 states approved constitutional gay marriage bans last year, joining four others. Similar proposals will be on the ballot next year in Alabama, South Dakota and Tennessee.

Some Kansas voters, like 24-year-old Eric Hetzel, saw the amendment as a way to protect the traditional definition of marriage, written in Kansas law since 1867, from legal challenges.

"I am a Christian," Hetzel said. "I believe in the Bible and what it says that marriage is between a man and a woman."

But Byron Defreese, a 65-year-old retiree, called the amendment "total foolishness."

"I don't know how this is going to defend my marriage of 43 years," he said. "I think it's a diversion from the real issues."

a list of little nothings

i'm very mad at my kids because i took them out to dinner and they acted like brats.

so i went shopping yesterday and bought a pair of sexy, tall brown boots, 3 sweaters and 2 more mini-skirts, because i need more mini-skirts in my life.

i lifted weights on friday with a hot coach and my arms are still complaining about it. that, of course will not stop me from doing it again on tuesday.

i made a cd of hyper music today and danced to it, i was insanely happy for a little while for no apparent reason. then my husband left around 6pm and the giddiness passed. i wonder when it will return?

i had plans to meet someone at six and they didn't call me or answer their phone so i am quite bitter about that.

i finally finished reading that fifth harry potter book. zac will be happy and sir conan doyle can take a rest. so when's that next harry potter book due out?

it's cold, i mean freaking vampire's ass cold and windy outside. but it's 10 degrees at my mom's house, so i guess it could be worse. would have been nice if the icy weather had landed on sunday and not saturday. dammit.

tommy is going to mexico to live with my grandmother for a year, as soon as his passport arrives. there could be a little peace in my future, but definitely not hers.

my birthday is next week. technically i will be 32, although i dress and act more like 17, no...15. one day i'll start acting my age. (nahh...)

so i bought a new phone. it's red and expensive and very cool. i love it! i'm mindful of the fact that i should have waited, because now if i don't have enough money to send tommy to mexico it will be my own fault but what could i do? one of my students stole my phone and i had to buy a new one anyway. so anyway, i'm excited about that and i downloaded usher's "bad girl" ringtone.

so in a week or two i'll be taking tommy to mexico and then i'm going to honduras to two weeks for easter. where's all this money coming from anyway? i better stop shopping.

i'm happy that i'm going to see jes on tuesday night and then again on wednesday. i'm even going to cook...plátanos fritos, frijoles negros, sula, huevos y tortillas de harina, yummmmm.

well i guess i better get some work done, get in the shower and get in bed. italian lesson at midnight. yeah, i know, but i'm doing the best i can.

don't wanna sleep

So, I've pretty much figured out that if I could just successfully function without sleep I could be pretty happy. See, I put Tommy on the bus at 7:20, drive Tucker to school, get to work at 8am, work all day, spend the evening making lesson plans, correcting papers, feeding the kids, I watch Spanish soap operas on Univision from 8-10pm, read Harry Potter in between all that, and then go see Luciano after 10, staying till 2am or 4am or something like that and go home, getting up at 6:30 or seven again to do it all over again. I am perfectly ok with this routine. However, after about 3 days or 4 days like that I am about ready to collapse from exhaustion. I'm taking about as many vitamins as I can stomach already, and the no-doz, vivarin or other things just don't seem to be cutting it. The lack of sleep is not what's bothering me here, it's the debilitation that results. Any bright ideas?

we went to dinner and the kids fought and got on my nerves and then i came home and started doing my work in the living room while i watched rubi and amor real but i was too bugged about my books. my sister-in-law moved all my damn furniture around while i wasn't home and moved my bookshelves. let's understand, people that i do not like people touching my books and moving my things, especially my books. this is not a community, public fucking library here, these are MY books. half of them were upside down and do you even have to be LITERATE to know when a book is placed upside down on a shelf??? they're all in the wrong order grrrrrrrrrr. i had my madeline l'engle books together and my ray bradbury books together and all my favorite books on one shelf and all the text books together because it looks nicer that way and jesus don't even get me started. it would take me all night to fix it and i have too much work to do so i just fixed the books that were upside down. i know i'm crazy, don't worry about it. how i can obsess about the books when my room is complete disorder and there are papers and clothes everywhere really makes no sense but that's just the way i am. and i'm mad because i still can't find my cd's and i think the tow truck guy must have stolen them out of my car. wahhhh. gotta get my work done now if i am going to sleep b4 midnight. grrrrr. this book thing is going to keep me awake at night.

are the Canadians really smarter than us?

So what the hell is Washington's problem anyway?

TORONTO, Ontario (AP) -- In a landmark opinion, Canada's Supreme Court said Thursday that proposed legislation allowing gay marriage is constitutional, but the government cannot force religious officials to perform unions against their beliefs.

The Liberal government had sought the court's opinion, which is strictly advisory, as the House of Commons determines whether to legalize gay marriage at a federal level.

Judges in six provinces and one territory have already allowed same-sex marriage.

Canada would join Belgium and the Netherlands in allowing gay marriage if the law is passed.

"Several centuries ago, it would have been understood that marriage be available only to opposite-sex couples," the court said in its opinion.

"The recognition of same-sex marriage in several Canadian jurisdictions as well as two European countries belies the assertion that the same is true today."

The legislation is expected to be introduced early next year. The federal Conservatives and even some Liberal lawmakers were expected to wage a bitter battle to limit marriage to heterosexuals.

The gay marriage law needs the backing of at least 155 legislators in the 308-seat House of Commons to pass. It has the backing of the 38 Liberal Cabinet members and is believed to be supported by nearly all legislators in the Bloc Quebecois and New Democrat parties, which have 54 and 19 seats.

Supporters now need support from about half the 95 Liberal backbenchers. However, there is some dissent in the ranks.

"I do personally have a problem with redefining marriage and I'm sure some of my colleagues do as well," said Liberal lawmaker Roy Cullen.

Public opinion in Canada is evenly divided on the matter, and both sides are preparing for the next phase of the battle.

"This is a victory for Canadian values," said Alexander Munster of Canadians for Equal Marriage.

The Liberal government had asked the court to consider whether the federal government has the authority to define marriage, meant as a pre-emptive strike against provincial attempts to overturn a gay marriage law that might be passed. It also asked the court to consider whether religious groups must perform gay weddings and whether the proposed law is constitutional.

Also on Thursday, New Zealand's Parliament approved a bill that recognizes civil unions between unwed gay and straight couples but stops short of legalizing same-sex marriages.

26+ reasons why I hate this place

Yes, that's right I suck in every possible concievable way.
Go ahead and prepare yourself for the list of complaints I have today.

Are you ready?

Main complaint: I should not have moved. My stupid, stupid idea. And now that I want to move back, of course, no one else wants to move. I hate this place because:

a. the shower pressure sucks
b. it is too far out of town
c. there is NOTHING close by
d. Luciano does not live next door
e. I have to pay extra for trash pick-up
f. my cell-phone has no signal here
g. the kids room is above my room and it is too noisy
h. I can't get the damn internet cable router to work right
i. Luciano does not live next door
j. there are tiny ants in the dining room
k. the carpet in my room smells like dog
l. the refrigerator is too noisy
m. my neighbor is a bitch
n. the kids had to change schools
o. the after-school program is full and now what the hell am I gonna do?
p. Luciano does not live next door
q. my room is still riddled with boxes
r. now we have to keep up a yard/cut the grass (as if I need more to do)
s. I am too busy with my new job to solve all these problems
t. I hate it I hate it I hate it
u. I don't even get to blame it on anyone else since it was my stupid idea in the first place
v. here I can't go run at night and there is no gym
w. there is no pool and no park and no tennis courts
x. Luciano does not live next door
y. I want to go back where I was and now nobody will let me
z. what the hell was I thinking?????????

The road to no good?

So I'm at a point where I am having SUCH a good time and then occasionally I have a pang of guilt. ...Just a pang mind you, don't worry, it'll work itself out. And if not, there's medicine for it or something I'm sure.

I don't like my new place insanely, I don't like my new neighbor, and I wish I hadn't moved.

On October 27, my grandmother is coming to visit me from Mexico for a month. Yea! This is doubly cool because I've only ever met her once and she thinks I'm great. My dad is supposed to come from Atlanta at the same time. I know my dad slightly better than I do my grandmother. Possibly, my sister in California is coming as well and bringing her baby which was born in May. Even with the baby, this is semi-cool since I have only ever met my sister once, and that it solves the "what do I do with grandma while I work all day" dilemma. However, I do not know where anybody is going to sleep, since the house is already full. You don't just make your 77 year old grandmother sleep on the couch or anything, it just isn't done. Anybody got any extra mattresses?

Then there's the "will I be able to manage seeing you-know-who, with so many people around" question. A month is a long time, folks. A very long time.

Well now, as much as sleep was in the plan, there are papers to be corrected and lesson plans to be done first. I guess I'll sleep when I'm dead.

SO MUCH WORK!

So at least I have a job, and at some point I hope to receive a paycheck, but Jesus H. Christ, this job is sucking all the hours out of my life. I haven't been OUT unless it involved the need to consume food, I haven't watched TV, I haven't read a BOOK for crying out loud, this was supposed to get BETTER after college and it's like 10 times the work.

I prefer to be the student. Sadly, nobody will pay me to do that.

So, that's my grand complaint for the day.

In other news, Tommy is sick, but does not have strep. Perhaps it's the Czechoslovakian crud that Jes has? I dunno, but the poor thing is losing his voice. (Not a completely sad event for me, but sad for him anyway.)

My mother's car caught on fire the other day, which was a tad frightening.

My ex-husband is in jail for:
1. Drinking and driving
2. Open beer can in the truck
3. Driving with a suspended license (second offense)
4. Two unpaid speeding tickets
5. No insurance
6. No registration
7. Not showing up to court for #'s 3, 4, 5 and 6

He has a $51,000 bail and a court date on October 26 or 27 for:
8. Two counts of indecent liberties with a child (11-year old girl)
9. Child endangerment
10. Hiding from the police when he knew there were warrants for #'s 8 and 9

While he is in jail, his first ex-wife and I, the second ex-wife, will both be serving him with court action in regard to
11. Not paying his child support
12. Purposely working for cash to avoid garnishment of his paychecks.

We could'nt serve him his court papers before because when he allegedly touched the 11-year old, his wife left him and he went into hiding in Charlotte or something.

It looks like he'll be there a while unless he can get the third wife to bail him out of jail, which is a pretty slim chance since the 11-year old girl is her daughter.

Could'nt have happened to a nicer guy.

So I had about 1/4th of a boring day, then a great lunch with Jes, then aggravation because Tommy got kicked out of the after-school care program and now what in the hell am I going to do with him while I work?? That evil evil child, grrr.

But you really don't want to start me complaining about that because I'll sound like a child-abuser, I'm at the end of my rope.
So I'm learning some Italian

Yes I know it's wrong but it's soooooooo gooooooooood.....

And yes I am aware that I am evil.

So I got a job as a Spanish teacher at a nice high school in the ghetto. Not going so bad so far. We'll see. Keep your fingers crossed.

My car almost got repossessed today, that wasn't fun. Sure glad to finally be gainfully employed.

Moving on Saturday. Don't want to. (sigh) I like it here. :o(

Is it Friday yet?

So the new job...well, it's a job, and A job is better than NO job. So, it's ok, not hard, not stressful (yet), the boss-lady is a little bitchy but she's the boss-lady so I guess that's her prerogative. So, it's an ok job, I can do it, but I am not making enough money!! They want me to get my license to sell Real Estate, and I could potentially be making a lot more money by this time next year, but what would even be better than that would be money NOW. I won't even get a paycheck for 3 weeks.

Things are quiet at the moment, 10:39 p.m. and the children are asleep, the husband is (still) working in Virginia, and I did not even turn on the TV because if I do I tend to watch Law and Order till midnight. (What an exciting life.) Allegedly, I was going to bed at 9:30 so nobody gets to school late. One good thing about this job is that I do not have to be there till 9:00 a.m.

But anyway, I'm awake and contemplating if I can get a Masters in Criminal Science if my BA is in Spanish, or if I should just get a BS in Criminal Science since I just graduated and all the core classes are done. Hmm. Then again if I am going (supposedly) into Real Estate, maybe I should look into something to do with that. I need to go back to school for SOMETHING because I already feel my brain turning to mush. The Real Estate classes start on October 9th so I've got that coming up for now. I'll figure it out later.

So I am moving in 3 weeks and trying hard to be motivated to pack. It is not easy to be motivated about this much unrewarding work. When I'm finished, what? I get to look at all the pretty boxes, taped shut and labeled, then I get to move the heavy bastards into a truck, off same truck, into new place, and then UNPACK them all!?!

I hate moving.

In other news, hot Italian guy gave me his phone number. Yes, I do have a husband, and I have his picture in front of me at this very moment so I can't forget, even though he is not here. (It is so hard for me to be good. You just don't know.) What are the chances that hot Italian guy just wants to be friends? He seems innocent enough. Perhaps the only one with lascivious thoughts here is me. Friends, that's all, see? That would be just fine with me because I think I could mostly keep my hands off him.

So I got a job today. Yay. (Ugh.) It doesn't pay enough, but it's not carrying a tray of food so I am trying to be happy about it. Had pizza for dinner, cute Italian and cute (and very young) Mexican ask me for my phone number. I am however, (sadly at times) unavailable. It is so hard to be good.

Eat Worms And Beetles, Get A Green Card

The latest reality show, "Win The Green", is a show with a twist - the winner wins an immigration attorney's services to obtain a green card. The hit show with an estimated one million viewers has generated much controversy. According to a recent Washington Times article, http://www.washingtontimes.com/national/20040818-121341-3074r.htm critics who include the Southern California AILA chapter have asked that the show be canceled. The show's producers deny the show exploits illegal aliens and have no plans to cancel it.
Immigration attorneys should take note of the show because it perpetuates a myth that many immigrants have, that an immigration attorney can guarantee a green card. This is simply not true. Even the best immigration attorney may be helpless in situations where the law is not on the alien's side. In fact, the vast majority of undocumented aliens need action by Congress to get a green card, not any action at this time by any immigration attorney. The popularity of the show highlights the elephant in the room which is our large undocumented population. Except for a few misguided and misinformed persons, no one in their right mind in America would believe that it is even possible to deport millions of undocumented without visiting unprecedented harm upon American citizens. Legalization is the obvious solution to this unfortunate situation.
from: editor@ilw.com

GLAD Disappointed in Today's Split SJC Ruling that Lesbian Who Ageed to Have Child With Her Partner

August 25, 2004
GLAD Disappointed in Today's Split SJC Ruling that Lesbian Who Ageed to Have Child With Her Partner

(Boston, MA) Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) today expressed disappointment in a decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in a case involving two lesbians who were in a relationship and mutually decided to conceive and raise a child together by the insemination of one of the women. In the case T.F. v. B.L. (SJC No. 09104), the SJC ruled that after the couple’s breakup, the non-biological partner did not have an obligation to support the child, even though the Court acknowledged that she intentionally and purposefully acted to bring the child into the world. GLAD represented the biological mother, T.F.
“The Court’s decision is disappointing because it does not reflect the reality of children’s lives today. Many couples, both gay and straight, use reproductive technologies to bring children into the world, where one parent has a biological relationship to the child and the other parent does not. These children deserve the same legal protections as any other children,” said Bennett H. Klein, a GLAD attorney and counsel for T.F. Klein added, “Children do not control the circumstances of their birth and should not be harmed when a parent who intentionally and purposefully brings a child into the world disavows support for the child.”

T.F. and B.L., a lesbian couple, were in a relationship from 1996 to 2000. They wanted to start a family and agreed to conceive a child together and both raise and parent the child. After discussing alternatives, they agreed that T.F. should bear the child. T.F. and B.L. jointly selected an anonymous donor and T.F. became pregnant in December 1999. But in April 2000, B.L. broke up with T.F. T.F. gave birth to the child in July 2000. T.F. sued for support and after a three-day trial in Hampshire County Probate and Family Court, Judge Gail Perlman found that B.L. and T.F. made an agreement to have a child, but asked the Massachusetts Appeals Court to decide whether such an agreement could be enforced. The Supreme Judicial Court granted direct appellate review and heard oral argument on March 4, 2004.

While the SJC’s decision today was an important one, GLAD attorney Klein noted that “the decision is limited to narrow circumstances where an unmarried couple breaks up during a pregnancy.”

T.F.’s position in this case was supported by numerous child welfare organizations and reproductive technology providers, who signed “friend of the court” briefs, including the Child Welfare League of America, Massachusetts Citizens for Children, National Association of Social Workers, Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, Psychoanalytic Institute of New England, Ellen Perrin, M.D., a pediatrician at Tufts New England Medical Center, Barry Zuckerman, Chairman of Pediatrics at Boston University Medical School and Boston Medical Center, Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Baystate Reproductive Medicine, Reproductive Science Center, Resolve: The National Infertility Association, and Resolve of the Bay State.

Hating life a little less today

I had a good day today because I had lunch with Jes, and life is always better with Jes around. We shopped a little, then I visited Kelly, and ran, and effectively did not look for a job today. But I did get a call for a second interview with someone I already interviewed with, so maybe that will turn out to be something. I will likely have to piss off the very hot but ill-humored Italian guy who owns the restaurant where I started waitressing part-time, because I am going to interview at 2:30 tomorrow for a real job. That should be fun. I stopped in to see Bob when I dropped Jes off at class. Saw AJ, but he didn't even look up to notice the very short shirt I am wearing.(sigh) I miss being in art classes.
